Obituary of Shirley Mink

Shirley Mink, 76, of Zion IL, passed away January 10, 2017 at Rolling Hills Manor in Zion, IL. Shirley was born April 12, 1940, in Itawamba County, MS. On September 15, 1956, she married the love of her life, Charles Mink in Fulton, MS. Together they moved to Zion, IL in 1960, where they raised their children and built their lives. In 1997, Shirley retired from Cherry Electric in Waukegan to pursue being a full-time Grandma. Shirley was a devoted Grandmother and family was very important to her. She also enjoyed gardening, her flowers and baking. Survivors include her daughter, Renae (Refugio) Figueroa; daughter in law, Sandy Mink; close friend whom she considered a daughter, Erin Turner; grandchildren, Vern (Maggie) Ford, Jody Walker, Austin Mink, Daniel and Diana Figueroa; great-grandchildren, Ryan, Adalynn, and Lydia Ford; brothers Bertie Wayne Wood and Larry Joe Wood; sister, Laree (Jerry) Parker; sister in law, Vernel Johnson; and numerous beloved nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles; son, James Mink; daughter, Teresa Ford; parents Oliver and Florence Wood; brothers, Ralph Wood, and Claude Wood; and sister Wilma Jean Wiggington. Visitation will take place Sunday, January 15, 2017 from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Congdon Funeral Home, 3012 Sheridan Road, Zion, IL. A funeral will take place Monday, January 16, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Mt. Olivet Memorial Park, Zion, IL.
