Obituary of Robert R. Gedvilas

Robert R.  “Bob” Gedvilas, 82, of Winthrop Harbor, IL passed away Thursday, February 8, 2018 at home surrounded by his loving family.

Bob was born March 10, 1935 in Waukegan, IL to Simon and Diana Gedvilas.  He attended St. Bart’s School in North Chicago and Waukegan Township High School.  In 1977, Bob married the love of his life, Jane and together they lived in Beach Park for 20 years, later moving to Winthrop Harbor.  He was employed with Robert Hall for 25 years, Montgomery Ward for 15 years and AAFES for 12 years.  Bob’s passion was fostering dogs for Greater Chicago Cavalier Rescue, helping at least 30 dogs during his 12 years with them.  He volunteered his time, alongside his wife Jane, with fundraisers, pet clinics, and transporting animals.  He was an avid traveler, visiting 40 countries by air and sea.  Bob proudly served his country in the United States Army.  Most of all, he was a loving ‘Pop’ to Addison.

He leaves behind to cherish his memory, his loving wife of 40 years, Jane; daughter, Lisa (Richard) Domka; granddaughter, Rachel (Cliff McFarland) Domka; great-granddaughter, Addison; his pretty, younger sister, Theresa (the late James) Schlosser; many nieces and nephews; and his 2 dogs Jenny and Peggy.

He is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, William Gedvilas and John Gadwell; and sisters, Pearl Jakaitis and Beatrice Naden.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 15, 2018 from 12:00 until 2:00 p.m., with funeral service to follow at Congdon Funeral Home, 3012 Sheridan Road, Zion, IL 60099. Memorial contributions in Bob’s name can be made to Greater Chicago Cavalier Rescue, PO Box 1421, Aurora, IL 60507.
