Phil A. Varner, 59, of Winthrop Harbor passed away suddenly on November 22, 2012.
Phil was born September 8, 1953 in Keokuk, Iowa. He married Sue McLaughlin on May 26, 1976 in Waukegan. He had worked in construction and for West Vaco in Kenosha, WI. Phil enjoyed going to the scooter club meetings at Hot Dog Harbor in Winthrop Harbor and enjoyed riding his scooter down to Lake Michigan. He enjoyed woodworking and spending time with his grandchildren and family. Phil was a devoted father and grandfather who always put his family first.
He is survived by his children, Philip Lee Varner, Sheena (Robert Smith) Varner, and Joshua David Varner; grandchildren Raymond James Smith and Layla Susan Betty Smith; one sister Sheila (Gene) Davis; mother-in-law Barbara Jean Varner; sister-in-law Patricia (Robert) Traver; 3 brothers-in-law David (Brenda) McLaughlin, Lloyd Eugene McLaughlin, and Dennis (Tammi) McLaughlin; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 34 years, Sue Varner in March of 2009; father George Varner; grandparents Glen and Beulah Varner; and one brother-in-law James McLaughlin.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, November 28, 2012 from 10:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at Congdon Funeral Home, 3012 Sheridan Road, Zion. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Don Pabon officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Olivet Memorial Park, Zion.
