Donald L. "Don" Hanlin, 61, of Gurnee, IL, and formerly of Washington Island, WI; went to be with the Lord on Thursday, April 18, 2013, at Vista Medical Center East, Waukegan, IL.
Don was born September 21, 1951, in Waukegan, IL, and graduated from Warren Twp. High School in 1969. He attended Barat College in Lake Forest, IL for two years. Don married his high school sweetheart Abbie Padro on May 20, 1972, in Waukegan, IL. He was a member of Trinity Christian Church in Zion, IL. Don formerly worked as a manager at Barrett Electronics, Northbrook, IL, and Dill Brothers Inc., Zion, IL. He was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps. Don was the most devoted and loving husband, father, son, grandfather, and uncle.
Survivors include his wife of 40 years, Abbie Hanlin; children, Justin (Kristy Borges) Hanlin of Gurnee, IL, and Janay Hanlin of Lindenhurst, IL; grandchildren, Jacob and Kaleb Hanlin, and Giana Hunter, and Olivia Rodriguez; mother, Effiebell Hanlin of Carmi, IL; brothers, Danny (Margaret) Hanlin of WI, and David (Barbara) Hanlin of Washington Island, WI; sisters, Patricia (Frank) Eliott of Carmi, IL, Linda Hardin, of Sturgeon Bay, WI, Annette (Chuck)Schmidt of Carmi, IL, and Crystal (Lee) Rousch of Sturgeon Bay, WI; beloved father-in-law and mother-in-law, Hector and Genevieve Padro; a special sister-in-law, Hilda "Tuti" Russell of Kenosha, WI; special cousins, Audrey and Rick Ochoa and Rhonda Simopoulos who were with us every step of the way; and many loving nieces, nephews and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Richard Hanlin; brother, John Hanlin; and brother-in-law, Charles D. Padro.
A Funeral Service will be held on Monday, April 22, 2013, at 6:00 p.m. at the Trinity Christian Center, 2600 Lewis Ave., Zion, IL, with Pastor Tim Eddy, officating. Friends may greet the family on Monday from 3:30 p.m. until the time of service at the church. Memorial donations are suggested to the American Cancer Society.
