Amilee Gibson

1938 — January 5, 2024

Amilee was born in Prairie, Mississippi on December 05, 1938, to Orsie Sr, and Madgie Wilson. She attended Baptist Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Prairie, Mississippi, and confessed Christ at an early age.

Amilee attended Prairie High school and after graduation, she moved to Chicago, Illinois.

In 1960, Amilee married John C. Gibson and became a military wife, traveling the United States. From this union four children were born Cherie, John C. Jr., Venita, and Tynice.

In 1975, Amilee moved to Waukegan, Illinois. While raising her family she also worked for Waukegan School District 60, where she held various part-time positions at Webster and Jefferson Junior High Schools. She enjoyed her work and was often recognized and greeted by former students when she was out.

Amilee joined Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist church and faithfully attended under the leadership of Pastor B.J. Gaston.  She joyfully served as a Willing Worker for many years. After Pastor B.J. Gaston retired, she joined First Baptist Church in North Chicago, Illinois.

Amilee was a strong woman of faith, she loved God, adored her family and was always willing to listen, lend a helping hand, and encourage others to trust in God.

After 25 years of employment with Waukegan School District 60, Amilee retired to focus on what she loved to do, which was cooking, baking, and eating sweets.  Every Christmas you could expect a Carmel cake or a fruit cake from her as a gift.  When she was not in the kitchen you could find her at Casual Corner, Carson’s, Marshall Field's, Lord & Taylor or the nearest shopping mall. She loved to shop, travel, laugh, and dance. As a matter of fact, in her younger years she and her cousin competed and won several dance contests. She was truly genuine, full of life and love.

On the morning of Friday, January 05, 2024, our Heavenly Father called her home to glory where she will join those who have proceeded her in death: parents, Orsie Sr. and Madgie Wilson; husband, John C. Gibson; son, John C. Jr.; daughter, Venita (Miller) Gibson; brother, Orsie Wilson Jr.; and sisters, Bernice Hamilton and Mildred Daniel.

She leaves to cherish her memory: daughters, Cherie Gibson and Tynice Gibson; granddaughter, Aryelle (Neil) Plummer; great grandsons, Ayden Plummer, Austen Plummer, and Ashten Plummer; sister in-laws, Willie Bell Wilson, Mary Helen Bonner, Glorious Jean Ewing, Alton Ewing, Earnestine Ewing, Nancy Hayes, Doris Ewing, Katherine Ewing, and Lula Parsons; aunt, Missouri Wilson, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and Charlie.
