Bill J. Johnson, 70, of Winthrop Harbor, Illinois, died suddenly on Sunday, May 17, 2009 at Vista Medical Center East in Waukegan, Illinois. Bill was born August 24, 1938 in Golden, Mississippi and has lived in Winthrop Harbor most of his life. He attended First Baptist Church of Winthrop Harbor and was a member of Salem Baptist Church in Golden, Mississippi. Bill worked as a sub-contractor for Commonwealth Edison Zion Nuclear Plant for many years, retiring in 1994. Prior to that he had worked for American Motors in Kenosha, Wisconsin. He was a former member of Zion-Benton Moose and belonged to Labor Union #152 out of Highland Park, Illinois. Bill served his country with the United States Army in the early 1960's. Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Jane; one son, Michael (Dana) Johnson of Pleasant Prairie, Wisconsin; one granddaughter, Peyton Ashley Johnson; siblings, Larry (Linda) Johnson of Florida, Judy (Gary) Wilson of Winthrop Harbor and Kathleen (Edward) Lewis of Fulton, Mississippi; one brother-in-law, Al (Kathy) O'Rear of Little Rock, Arkansas; many nieces and nephews; and his dog and faithful companion, "Suzie". He was preceded in death by one sister, Mavis (and the late Martin) Kitchens; and by his parents, Mannie and Ethel Johnson. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, May 18, 2009, at 7:00 p.m. at the CONGDON FUNERAL HOME, 3012 Sheridan Road, Zion, with Pastor Michael Brown of First Baptist Church of Winthrop Harbor officiating. Visitation will be Thursday from 4:00 p.m. until time of services at the Congdon Funeral Home. Memorial donations to First Baptist Church Building Fund have been suggested.
