Bill L. Savage, 77, of Beach Park, IL, died on Thursday, November 22, 2012, at home.
Bill was born in Waukegan, IL, and was a lifetime resident of Lake County, IL. He graduated from a one room school house, Lone Oak School in Zion and Zion Benton Township High School in 1952. Bill married Catherine Cameron on October 29, 1955 in Chicago. He was a charter member of Our Lady of Humility Church in Beach Park where he served as Eucharistic Minister, Minister of Care, and a Choir Member. His employment included the Retail Credit Company, Berry Milk Service, Benton Township Highway Department, and owner of Savage Water Transfer/Savage Enterprises. Bill was a member of the Lake County Farm Bureau, Lake County Farm Heritage Assn, S.E. Wisconsin Antique Power & Collectibles Society, Township Highway Commissioners Assoc., and AARP. He was devoted to farming and gardening and had farmed part time on a small scale basis while working other jobs. He enjoyed restoring old tractors, and showing them in parades.
Survivors include his wife, Catherine M. Savage; children, Susan (Marty) Grana of Beach Park, IL, Kenneth Savage of Winthrop Harbor, IL, Patricia (Jim) Berens of Beavercreek, OR, Lawrence (Angel) Savage of Beach Park, IL, Jean (Steve) Davis of Antioch, IL, and Karen Savage of Sherwood, OR; grandchildren, Jenny, Matt, Daniel, Greg, Nate, Anna, Seth, Abby, Alivia, Gabe, Adam, Sarah, Michelle, Jackie, Jessica, Wil, Kayla, Brian, Aaron, Tara, Katrina, and Kyle; 8 great-grandchildren; brother, Melvin S. (Helen) Savage of Fox Lake, IL; and sister, Sandra (Dan) Tindell of Mechanicsburg, PA.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Claron and Edith Savage; sister, Joan Savage Block; brother, Michael R. Savage; and daughter-in-law, Vikki Savage.
Visitation will be Monday, November 26, 2012, from 5:00-8:00 p.m. at Congdon Funeral Home, 3012 Sheridan Rd., Zion, IL. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, November 27, 2012, at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Humility Church, 10655 W. Wadsworth Rd., Beach Park, IL. Interment will follow at Ascension Cemetery, Libertyville, IL. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are suggested to St. Joseph's Lakota, the Mercy Home, or the Christian Appalachian Project.
