Dorothy E. Stang, 67, of Winthrop Harbor, died on October 1, 2008, at Vista Medical Center East in Waukegan.
Dorothy was born February 3,1941, in Zion, IL, and was a 1959 graduate of Zion-Benton Township High School. She married Leonard Stang on September 5, 1959.
Dorothy was an active member of the Apostolic Lutheran Church in Zion. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. Dorothy enjoyed many hobbies, including gardening, jig-saw puzzles, and crossword puzzles.
Survivors include her husband of 49 years, Leonard Stang; sons, LeRoy (Kay) Stang of Kansasville, WI, David (Laura) Stang of Cumming , GA, Daniel Stang of Greensboro, N.C., and Tim (Sue) Stang of Winthrop Harbor, IL; grandchildren, Andy, Erin, Dustin, Calvin, Jennifer, Jonathan, Rachel, Tim, and Tom; sisters, Virginia (Tom) Heinonen of Trenary, MI, Helen Pietila of Northfield, MI, Carol Jurmu of Laurium ,MI, and Ruth Davison and Susan (Paul) Wittenburg, both of Washington; brother, Donald (Charlotte) Daavettila of Houghton, MI: and many nieces and nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents; infant son, Andrew Stang; and brothers, Carl and Paul Daavettila.
A Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, October 7, 2008, at 10:00 a.m at the Apostolic Lutheran Church, 39372 N. Carol Lane, Zion, IL, with Pastor Jim Torola, officiating. Interment will follow at Northshore Garden of Memories, North Chicago. Visitation will be Monday, October 6, 2008, from 5:00-8:00 pm. at Congdon Funeral Home, 3012 Sheridan Rd, Zion. Memorial donations are suggested to the Apostolic Lutheran Church.
