George Peters, 73, of Wadsworth, IL, went to be with the Lord, surrounded by his family on Sunday, February 13, 2011, at the University of Chicago Medical Center in Chicago.
George was born October 7, 1937, in Bain Station,(Kenosha County), WI, and graduated from Zion Benton Township High School in 1956 where his picture was placed on the Wall of Fame due to an excellent wrestling career that included a 5th place finish at the Illinois State Wrestling Championship. He married Betsey Fisher on July 6, 1957 in Zion. George was a member of Lakeshore Tabernacle Church in Kenosha where he had served on the Board of Directors and the Mission Board. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. George was especially fond of gardening and playing golf.
Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Betsey; children, Georgia (Rob) Brown of Winthrop Harbor, Il, Curt (Christine) Peters of Winthrop Harbor, IL, Tina (Michael) Delabre of Gurnee, IL, and Cindy (Steven) Thomas of Fox Lake, Il; grandchildren, Dustin (Brianne) Brown, Megan Brown, Shellie (Christopher) Zambrana, and Daniel Delabre; great-grandchildren, Antonio, Aiden, Mikayla, and Asher; sisters, Kathryn Bottger of Checotah, OK, and Helen (Don) Banta of Cedarburg, WI; brothers, James Peters of Eufaula, OK, and David (Deanna) Peters of Zion, IL; and many loved nieces and nephews.
George was preceded in death by his father and mother, Steve and Elsie Peters;
and brothers, Daniel, Nick, Tom, Ted, Jerry, and Harry Peters.
Visitation will be Thursday, February 17, 2011, from 4:00-8:00 p.m. at Congdon Funeral Home, 3012 Sheridan Rd., Zion. A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, February 18, 2011, at 1:30 p.m. at the funeral home., with Pastor Mark Moore of Lakeshore Tabernacle, officiating.
