Marlin Eugene Bird, a resident of Naples, FL, formerly of Beach Park, IL, passed away on January 24, 2024, at the age of 89. He was born on October 22, 1934, to James and Ethel (Brooks) Bird.
Marlin is survived by his daughters, Kathy (Don) Alexander and Diane (Frank) Bunker, his son Terry, grandchildren Daniel (Laura) Bereiter and Jackie Bereiter (fiancé David Madden), and great-grandchild Timothy. He is also survived by his brothers-in-law John (Margaret) Maynard and Everett Schleter.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his beloved wife of 62 years, Carol (Maynard) Bird, his brother Richard Bird, sister-in-law Janet (Maynard) Schleter, brother-in-law Loren Maynard, and son-in-law Tim Bereiter.
Marlin was known for being energetic and hard working. During his career he built the machine shop he founded into a successful parts supplier for the automotive industry. He loved ice racing on motorcycles, Hobie Cat competitive sailing, and traveling. Marlin and Carol were especially fond of exploring the Caribbean, Australia, and New Zealand. After retiring to Florida, he enjoyed spending time and energy working in the Naples Reserve community vegetable garden.
