Vera M. Turner, 85, of Zion, IL died on Saturday, September 3, 2011 at Aurora Medical Center in Pleasant Prairie, WI.
Vera was born August 21, 1926 in Watford, Hertfordshire, England. After World War II ended she married Robert Turner on May 4, 1946 and together they came to Waukegan and shortly thereafter settled in Zion. She retired from Illinois Beach Lodge after 27 years. Vera actively attended Grace Missionary Church of Zion where she was involved in many aspects of the Church. She was also actively involved in several other organizations including the Red Hat Society, Zion Women's Club, Illinois Dunesland Garden Club, Zion Senior Citizens, and Zion-Benton Moose.
Survivors include her children Ray Turner of Zion, IL, Sheryl (Gary) Turner of Winthrop Harbor, IL, and Gary (Ali) Turner of Zion, IL; five grandchildren Brandon (Jaclyn) Turner, Kristen (Tommy Hassan) Turner, Meghan Turner, Brittany Turner, and Rachel Turner; two great-grandchildren Noah and Logan Hassan; one sister-in-law Rene Warren of England; and many nieces, nephews, and special friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband Robert in 1988; and three brothers Thomas (and the late Doff) Warren, George (and the late Joan) Warren and Ernie Warren.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 10, 2011, at 3:00 p.m. at Grace Missionary Church, 1415 27th Street, Zion, IL with Pastor Douglas Carlson officiating. A visitation will be held on Saturday from 2:00 p.m. until time of services at the Church. In lieu of flowers memorial donations to either Grace Missionary Church or a charity of choice have been suggested.
