Allan G. Klabunde

November 21, 1943 — September 30, 2024

Allan Klabunde, 80, of Zion, Illinois, passed away on September 30, 2024. He was born in Waukegan, Illinois, where he attended school before later moving to Zion, where he made his home. Allan worked for Illinois Bell for many years before retiring, later finding a second career at Abbott Labs, where he continued to make an impact until his final retirement.

In 2005, Allan volunteered in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, a chapter of his life he cherished. Helping with the cleanup in the devastated South gave him a profound sense of purpose, and it was a time when he felt especially useful, knowing he was making a difference in the lives of others.

Allan had a lifelong passion for wild flowers and gardening, never missing a season to tend to his plants. He kindly gave away his extra vegetables to friends, family, and neighbors after each harvest. He lovingly tried to pass this hobby on to one of his daughters and her children. Although they may not have all inherited his green thumb, the memories they made together in the garden will always be treasured. Allan was also an avid car enthusiast and proudly owned a 1973 Javelin, which he frequently showcased at local car shows.

Allan is survived by his son, Andrew (Steph Bresnahan) Klabunde; his daughters, Wendy (James) Moore and Susan (Alex) Aedo; and his grandchildren, Amanda Klabunde, Abby Klabunde, Julia Moore, Kayleigh Moore, Elaine Aedo, Katel Aedo, Xander Aedo, and Tori Aedo. He also leaves behind his beloved dog, Annie, who was his loyal companion until the end.

He was loved and will be missed by many.
