Anne Beverly Scheve (nee Coumbe), 90, passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 4, 2016 at ManorCare in Kenosha WI.
She was born June 3, 1925 in Suffern, NY to Charles and Lilias Coumbe. Bev moved to Waukegan in 1942 and worked at Great Lakes NTC from 1943 – 1945. She married the love of her life, John Ralph Scheve, Sr., on June 16, 1945 at Immaculate Conception Church.
Bev was the librarian at Andrew Cooke and John Clark Schools from 1969 -1980. When she and Ralph retired, they spent their winters in St. Augustine, Florida. She was her happiest when walking the beach and finding sand dollars. Bev was also an artist, and painted landscapes and seascapes. Most of all, she loved to laugh, talked to everyone she met, and never met a person who didn’t become a friend.
She is survived by her sister-in-law, Phyllis Coumbe; her children: John and Judy Scheve; Susan and Jack Vece; Tom and Lisa Scheve; Mike and Jody Scheve. Her grandchildren: Christopher and Chieko Scheve; Jason Scheve; Joel and Laurie Vece; Tim and Lindsay Vece; Katy and Chris Cassata; Brad and Carly Scheve; and Kevin Scheve. She was also the great grandmother of Chase and Joseph Scheve; Leah Vece; John and Lily Vece; Charlie and Violet Cassata.
Bev was preceded in death by her husband, her sister, Evelyn Coumbe, her brothers Jack and Tom Coumbe, and her nephew Michael Coumbe. Her in-laws Ernest and Grace (Griffith) Scheve, and their children: Ernest, Ethel, Helen, Elsie, Betty, Lurene, and Donald also preceded her.
Visitation will be held Thursday, February 11, 2016 from 5:00 until 9:00 pm at Congdon Funeral Home, 3012 Sheridan Road, Zion, IL 60099. The funeral mass will be said on Friday, February 12 at 10:00 am at St. Dismas Church, 2600 Sunset Ave in Waukegan. Father Rugan will officiate. Interment will follow at North Shore Garden of Memories, 1801 Green Bay Road, North Chicago, IL 60064.
