Anthony Giltner

Anthony Giltner, 63, of Waukegan, IL passed away on December 9, 2024 at Christ Hospital in Oak Lawn, IL.

He was born on December 9, 1961 in Elmhurst, IL to Benedict Clare and Margaret (Hewitt) Giltner. Anthony graduated from Fenton High School in Bensenville, IL where he competed at the state level in wrestling. He then went to college and joined the U.S. Navy. Anthony married Dawn Watt at St. Alexus Church in Bensenville, IL. He worked with the U.S. Navy for 23 years as an Independent Duty Corpsman HMC, then as a pharmacy technician for twenty years at the James A. Lovell Federal Healthcare Center. He was a member and Vice Commander of the Gurnee American Legion, a member of the Knights of Columbus, as well as the Chiefs Mess Aboard Great Lakes, and cub scout committee chairman. He was also a referee for Lake County High School wrestling, and was an umpire for Lake County High School baseball. He loved kayaking with his son, watching old movies, and enjoyed an eclectic combination of music. 

Anthony is survived by his wife, Dawn Giltner; children, Benedict Giltner, and Gillian Giltner; siblings, Becky Selgelid, Sue (Mike) Avery, Teresa, Joan (Sharon Nowlin) Giltner , Peggy (Albert) Adams, and Gene Giltner; many nieces, nephews, and great-nieces & nephews. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, Benedict C. & Margaret Giltner; brother Benedict (Bo) Giltner; sister-in-law Roberta Giltner; and brother-in-law, Mike Selgelid; sister-in-law, Peggy Giltner. 

A memorial visitation will be held on Saturday, January 11, 2025 from 2:00 p.m. until the time of the service at 6:00 p.m., at Congdon Funeral Home, 3012 Sheridan Rd., Zion, IL 60099.
