Mr. Anthony "Tony" Gonzales, 71, of Beach Park, died on Friday, May 4, 2007 at Vista Medical Center East in Waukegan.
Anthony "Tony" Gonzales was born September 17, 1935 in Los Angeles, California and moved to this area in 1970 from Winters, California, where he grew up. He retired in 1986 from Fansteel in Waukegan and prior to that had worked for Union Pacific Railroad while in California. He was a Veteran of the Korean War having served with the United States Navy. He was well known for his many years of coaching men's softball in the area and for his frequent trips to Las Vegas. But his true love remained his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Mary; children Tony (Leticia) Gonzales of Beach Park, Elizabeth (Dwight) Patterson of Winthrop Harbor and Johnnie (Susan) Gonzales of Waukegan; six grandchildren Robert (Daria) Dreyer, Jennifer Dreyer and Tony, Michael, Leah and Ashley Gonzales; three great-grandchildren Mason Dreyer and Alex and Adrian Salgado; a very special friend Doug Hiatt of Beach Park; and other family in California.
He was preceded in death by his father and mother Abundio and Felis Gonzales.
Visitation will be Monday, May 7, 2007, from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the CONGDON FUNERAL HOME, 3012 Sheridan Road, Zion. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, May 8th, at 10:00 a.m. at the Congdon Funeral Home with interment to follow at Mt. Olivet Memorial Park, Zion.
