Anthony “Tony” Joseph Phistry Sr., 80, passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones on August 9, 2024 in Waukegan, IL.
Tony was born on March 25, 1944 in Chicago, IL to the late Louis and May (Ohrabka) Phistry. He made Zion his home in 1970. Several years after settling into Zion Tony took his passion for flowers and opened a floral business, Tony’s House of Creations, which blossomed under his guidance for nearly 50 years. His flower shop brought happiness to many and continues to do so to this day.
Tony enjoyed the holidays, especially Christmas. He would go all out decorating his store front windows, and won first prize awards for outstanding displays. He also had a wide range of hobbies. Tony enjoyed doing puzzles with family, playing a strategic game of chess and was a devoted movie lover. He was an avid fan of Elvis Presley, whose music and movies brought him endless joy. Over the years he accumulated an extensive collection of Elvis memorabilia along with frogs and Coca Cola items but what he loved the most is spending time with family and friends.
Tony was a past member of the Zion/ Winthrop Harbor/Beach Park Chamber of Commerce, US Cable, the Italian American club, and the Moose club. His commitment to his community was evident in all he did, leaving a lasting impact on everyone he met.Tony will be deeply missed by his family, friends and community. He was a very special, caring, generous and thoughtful man with a great sense of humor. Those who had the privilege of knowing him, loved him. He left behind a lifetime of memories and laughter for us to cherish and share.
Anthony is survived by his life-long partner and best friend Patricia “Patty” Weidner, his “favorite nephew” Ray Scifo; his children, Cathy (Andy), Anthony (Barbara), Colleen, Cheryl (Jonathan), Louie, Lisa, Darrel, Billy, and Crystal; twenty grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren, and one great-great-child; many nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews; and sister-in-law Dorothy Phistry. His special long time friends, Mike and Laurie Mercure and Bob “Red” Menard. He is preceded in death by his parents, Louis and May Phistry; sisters, Rosalie (Sam) Scifo, Clara (Gerald) Miller, and MaryAnn Phistry; brothers, Phillip Phistry, and Louis Phistry; and nephew Phillip Miller.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, August 18, 2024 at Congdon Funeral Home, 3012 Sheridan Rd., Zion, IL 60099 from 3:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. A Second visitation will be held at 9:00 a.m. on Monday, August 19, 2024 also at the funeral home before processing to church. Funeral service will be held at Our Lady of Humility Catholic Church, 10655 W. Wadsworth Rd., Beach Park, IL 60099 on Monday August 19, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. Interment will be at Queen of Heaven Cemetery, 1400 S. Wolf Rd., Hillside, IL 60162 at 1:00 p.m.
