Antonia Hernandez

Antonia Hernandez, a beloved member of the Hernandez family and of her community, passed away peacefully at the age of 65 on the 18th of September 2024.

She was born the 2nd of July 1959 in Manhattan, New York.

Antonia lived a life marked by kindness, strength, patience, and dedication to God, her family, friends, and the causes she cared about deeply.

Known for her generous spirit, Antonia was a pillar of support for everyone who knew her. She worked timelessly as an instructor and child development monitor, at the Children’s Museum at Navy Pier, where her compassion and devotion inspired many. Antonia had a passion for the arts and music as she alway found joy in sharing her activities with her family and community.

She was a fierce advocate for children’s issues and members of the disability community, leaving behind a legacy of helping others that will be remembered for years to come.

Her family and friends were the center of her world, and her love for them was boundless. Antonia is survived by her life - partner Carla King, children; Migdalia Roman, Jonathan Orduna, grandson; Xavier Bates, her mother Anna Colon, sister Jacqueline Acurio, brother Jose Santana and other surviving brother, who will forever cherish her memory.

She was preceded in death by her beloved father, Rosario Hernandez Sr.

Antonia’s unwavering love, wisdom, and warmth touched the lives of all who knew her. Though she will be greatly missed, her legacy of compassion, strength, and community service will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Visitation will be held on the 28th of September 2024 at Congdon Funeral Home, 3012 Sheridan rd. Zion, Illinois, from 3:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. followed directly by a celebration of Antonia’s life at 4:00 p.m..

She will rest in peace in the presence of the LORD. Amen.
