Arlo E. Carney, 93, of Zion, Illinois, died on Saturday, February 13, 2010 at St. Catherine's Hospital in Kenosha.
Arlo was born October 26, 1916 in Rushmore, Minnesota, grew up in Fairmont, Minnesota and moved to Chicago in 1942 to work for Belden Corporation, retiring in 1982. After retirement, he and his wife Bernice Susan lived for a while in St. Charles, Illinois and came to Zion in 1999 where they built a home on their daughters farm. He was a member of SCORE (Service Corps of Retired Executives) and while in St. Charles was active in, and a Past President of the Kiwanis Club. Arlo enjoyed the outdoors and was an avid fisherman, especially enjoying fishing for Muskie.
Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Bernice Susan, whom he married May 15, 1943; children, Susan (David) Richards of Zion and Dr. John L. (Dr. David Usndek) Carney of Berwyn, Illinois; six grandchildren, Kim (Bill) Baker, Susie (Kevin) Fisher, David (Andrea) Richards Jr., Michael (Kristen) Richards, Marc (Glenda) Carney and Denise (Fiancé Bob), Carney; eleven great-grandchildren, Dani, Beth, Austin, Kayley, Julie, Sarah, Devin, Jessie, Marc Jr., Stephanie and Shannon; one brother, Marvin (and the late Evelyn) Carney of Fairmont, Minnesota; and a nephew, Jan (Gail) Carney.
He was preceded in death by one son Alan Joseph (and the late Loretta) Carney; and by his parents, Elmer and Mary Carney.
Visitation will be Wednesday, February 17, 2010, from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the CONGDON FUNERAL HOME, 3012 Sheridan Road, Zion. Mass of Christian burial will be Thursday, February 18th, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, 15000 Wadsworth Road, Wadsworth, Illinois. Entombment will follow at Mt. Olivet Memorial Park, Zion. Memorial donations to Newport Township Rescue Department has been suggested.
