Arthur Oliver Capp Jr.

1925 — April 11, 2017

Arthur Oliver Capp Jr., 91, our beloved Dad, lived most of his life with his cherished wife and family in Zion, and Beach Park, Illinois. He went home to be with his Lord on April 11, 2017. He was born on his mother’s birthday November 2nd, 1925 to his parents Arthur O. Capp, Sr. and Iva Irene Capp. He was nick named "Ollie" by his schoolmates and friends and he grew in faith attending Christian Catholic Church, now called Christ Community Church. He said, "Church was the dominant influence of my early life." After graduating Zion Benton High School in 1943 he enlisted in the United States Army Air Corps and served for 4 years. He then went on to get his Mechanical Engineering degree from the University of Illinois in Champaign, Urbana, graduating in 1949. He married his beloved sweetheart, Patricia Louise (Baughman) Capp on September 1st, 1950. They shared 67 wonderful years together. He was the godly patriarch of the "Capp-Tens Crew". They endeavored to follow in their parents’ footsteps and build their family on the Rock of Jesus Christ. His most treasured accomplishment with the help of God was raising a godly family... he and Patricia had five sons and three daughters. His family grew to include 23 Grandchildren, and 16 Great Grandchildren. All together including spouses the total is 64 and still growing. He said, "My greatest joy on this earth is my family." “Like arrows in the hand of a warrior, so are the children of one’s youth. How blessed is the man whose quiver is full of them;” (Psalm 127: 4, 5) Ollie and Pat loved traveling around the United States with their family and visiting Europe with some of their friends. In his later years Ollie enjoyed painting, creating shell art, wood carving, and playing games with his grandchildren. He was employed at Fansteel Metallurgical Corporation beginning in May 1950. He started his own successful sales representative organization in 1967 called Arthur O Capp Company, later known as Capco. Then in 1979 he was the founder of Laserage Technology Corporation and served as its President until 1994. Ollie served his beloved church family in many ways. He was a deacon for many years and served on the administrative council. He also served his church by leading the ushers on Sunday mornings and teaching Sunday School. He supported the Zion Passion Play by being chief usher for over 20 years and by playing his trumpet in the orchestra. Ollie also played his trumpet in the Zion Concert Band. He served Camp Zion ministries participating in several work parties. He supported world-wide missions in many ways. We remember the man not only for his accomplishments but the man with a big personality that could light up any room. He was a warm, kind-hearted man. He was very generous, encouraging, and optimistic. Ollie always had a big smile on his face. He loved people, was quick witted and good natured.
