Arthur Hacker

Arthur Lloyd Hacker, 90, of Zion, IL passed away peacefully at home on Friday, April 22, 2011. He was born August 29, 1920 in Zion, the youngest child of James A. and Myrtle (Stanton) Hacker. He graduated from Zion Preparatory College in 1938. Arthur was a Veteran of World War II having served with the 110th Ordnance Medium Maintenance Company with the United States Army in the South Pacific which included Australia, New Guinea, Philippines, and Japan. On May 15, 1948 he married Marie Salica of Kenosha, WI. Together they built their home and raised their family in Zion. He retired from White Welding, a subsidiary of Miner Corporation of Kenosha in 1985 and enjoyed many years of retirement. He also enjoyed traveling, camping, bike riding, gardening, music, and his family. He was a member of Christ Community Church (formerly Christian Catholic Church) in Zion where he accepted Jesus as his savior and became a member in 1927. As a young man he sang in the choir and participated in the Zion Passion Play. He was active in the Zion Senior Citizens and the Hardy Hikers for many years. Art was a tuba player and was a member of the Zion Junior Band and for over 60 years with the Zion Concert Band. He was married to his wife Marie for 63 years and was the father of James A. (Kathy) Hacker of Marion, OH, Doreen (Edward) Matteson and John (Carol) Hacker both of Winthrop Harbor, IL; grandfather of the late Aaron (Kim) Hacker, Jason (Rylie) Hacker, David (Becki) Matteson, Robert (Joy) Matteson, Amanda Hacker, and Nicole Hacker; and great-grandfather of Dylan James Hacker, and Todd and Bethany Tanner. He was preceded in death by his parents; his sisters, Ruth Hacker, Eleanor Hacker, Martha Hacker, and Elizabeth Crary; and his grandson, Aaron S. Hacker in 2010. Visitation will be Thursday, April 28, 2011 from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. at the Christ Community Church, 2500 Dowie Memorial Drive, Zion, IL. A funeral service will be held on Friday, April 29th, at 10:00 a.m. at Christ Community Church, Pastor Jon Wiziarde officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Olivet Memorial Park, Zion. Memorials to Camp Zion have been suggested.
