Austin E. "Austy" Staunton Sr., 64, of Waukegan, Illinois, died on Sunday, February 7, 2010 at home. Austin was born November 10, 1945 in Weehawken, New Jersey and moved to Gurnee in 1984. He graduated from Bergenfield High School in New Jersey. Austin retired as a Police Officer from the Veterans Administration Hospital in North Chicago. He was a Veteran of the Vietnam War, having served with the United States Army, and he was a member of the Lake County Chapter of Vietnow. Austin was an avid fisherman and was well known for his storytelling. He is survived by his wife of 31 years (together for 37 years), Holly; one son, Austin Evan Staunton Jr. of Beaverton, Oregon; his niece, Angela Hamilton of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; his adopted son, Bill Wickstrom of Lindenhurst, Illinois; brothers, Edward Staunton of Bergenfield, New Jersey and Nelson (Pat) Staunton of Sebastian, Florida and their daughter, Shannon Staunton also of Sebastian; and one sister, Julia Ann (George) Malavolta and their children Tracey and Brad Malavolta. He was preceded in death by his parents, Austin and Harriet Staunton. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 13, 2010, at 3:00 p.m. at the CONGDON FUNERAL HOME, 3012 Sheridan Road, Zion. Visitation will be Saturday from 1:00 p.m. until time of services at the funeral home. Memorial donations to Disabled American Veterans has been suggested.
