Bernice "Susan" Carney, 96, of Zion, IL died April 22, 2015 at home surrounded by family.
She was born March 4, 1919 in Detroit, MI. She worked at Belden Corporation in Chicago where she met and later married Arlo E. Carney on May 15, 1943. After raising and taking care of her children, Susan worked as a librarian in a high school in West Chicago. She was an avid Catholic and a member of St. Anthony's Guild. Susan enjoyed fishing, reading, making holiday cookies, living close to her family, and was especially proud of her prize winning iris and peace roses.
Susan is survived by her children, Susan (David) Richards of Zion and Dr. John L. (Dr. David Usndek) Carney of Berwyn, Illinois; six grandchildren, Kim (Bill) Baker, Susie (Kevin) Fisher, David (Andrea) Richards Jr., Michael (Kristen) Richards, Marc (Glenda) Carney and Denise (Bob) Carney; and eleven great-grandchildren, Dani, Beth, Austin, Kayley, Julie, Sarah, Devin, Jessie, Marc Jr., Stephanie and Shannon.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Arlo; son, Alan Joseph Carney; daughter-in-law, Loretta Carney; and her siblings.
Mass of Christian burial will be held Saturday, April 25, 2015 at 9:30 a.m. at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, 15000 Wadsworth Rd., Wadsworth, IL. Friends may great the family at 8:30 a.m. until the time of service at the church. Entombment will follow at Mt. Olivet Memorial Park, Zion, IL. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations will be accepted and distributed to the women who took care of Susan in her final years.
