Betty Lucile Eskew, nee Cobb, 87, of Waukegan, IL, died on Wednesday, October 8, 2014 in Waukegan.
She was born April 6, 1927 in Waukegan, IL to the late Madison Edward and Rose Clara (Miller) Cobb. She married the late Carl Delmar Eskew in Waukegan, IL. She had lived in North Chicago, Antioch, Winthrop Harbor, Beach Park, Zion and currently was living in Waukegan. Her employments included working in a factory, a restaurant owner (the 400 Café in Waukegan, IL), taxi company owner (Zion, Yellow - 1972; ABC - 1985 to 1993) and was currently employed at Catholic Charities. Her hobbies and interests included crochet (Betty made beautiful crocheted dolls and Afghans), playing Bingo regularly, was a lifetime member of VFW, belonged to the American Legion, was very active in the VFW and American Legion Auxiliaries, and served as District President of VFW Auxiliaries in 1998.
Survivors include stepchildren Carl Wayne (Shirley) Eskew of Ormond Beach, FL, and Ginger Fay (Lloyd) Powell of Byhalia, MS; and four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband Carl Delmar Eskew on October 20, 1993; her son Lawrence "Larry" Edward Eskew on October 20, 1991; her parents Madison Edward and Rose Clara (Miller) Cobb; and two brothers Al and Raymond.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, October 12, 2014, at 1:00 p.m. at the Winthrop Harbor V.F.W., Post #7448, 1112 Sheridan Road, Winthrop Harbor, IL. Private interment Mt. Olivet Memorial Park, Zion. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the
V.F. W. Poppy Fund (which helps Veterans) and may be sent to the Winthrop Harbor V.F.W. Post 7448 Ladies Auxiliary.
