Betty Marie Sanford (Faassen) passed away on Sunday, May 26th, 2019 in Orlando, Florida. She was born June 15th, 1922 in Zion, Illinois; and, recently moved to Orlando in February 2019.
Betty was a devoted wife to James Sanford, united in marriage February 25, 1944 in Lake Bluff, Illinois.
Betty was also secretary to her father, Fred Faassen, who was a past president of AARP for six years. She later became a Medicare biller for Crown Manor Nursing facility in Zion for 15 years.
She enjoyed singing in the church choir at the United Memorial Methodist Church in Zion for many years. She was a life long member of the Zion Women’s Club, Zion Historical Society, American Legion Auxiliary, and AARP. She was an assistant scout den mother, and long time election judge. Betty helped start the Elmwood School library, working mornings for three years organizing and processing 1500 books.
Betty was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 61 years, and her dear parents, Fred and Grace (Viking) Faassen.
Survivors include three sons, James V Sanford (Sherry) of Las Vegas, Fred W Sanford (Kathy) of Orlando, and Charles E Sanford (Dorota) of Northbrook, Illinois.
Four grandchildren include Jamie Sanford, Jonathan Sanford, Brooke Heldman (Nate), and Garrett T Sanford. Also two great granddaughters, Raechal Sanford and Hailee Sanford.
Visitation will be at Congdon Funeral Home, 3012 Sheridan Road in Zion, IL 60099, Sunday, June 2nd from 2-4 pm.
On Monday, June 3rd the Memorial United Methodist Church, 2935 Sheridan Road, in Zion, IL 60099, Viewing will be at 10am and Service at 11am.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to United Memorial Methodist Church in Zion.
