Lieutenant Commander Billy D. Harvey, 79, of Waukegan, IL, passed away peacefully in his sleep at home on Tuesday, September 21, 2010.
Billy was born October 1, 1930, in Dallas, TX, and married Mary Virginia Vetter on March 4, 1950, at the Bethesda Naval Hospital, Bethesda, Maryland. He was a graduate of Roosevelt University in Chicago. Billy attended Our Lady of Humility Church in Beach Park. He served with the United States Navy for 28 years and then retired from St. Joseph's High School in Kenosha where he was employed as Business Administrator. Billy was also a member of the Fleet Reserve Association. He was a loving husband of sixty years who enjoyed his large family of children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Billy also was an avid animal lover and protector.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Virginia; children, Susan Sams of Waukegan, Karen (Charles) Cory of Savannah, GA, Betty (Ronald) Longo-Suetmeyer of Waukegan, and David Harvey of Lake Villa, IL; eleven grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; and niece, Carolyn (Ness) Sechrest of West Memphis, AR. He was preceded in death by his parents, Monroe and Dena Harvey and sister, Susan Bollinger.
A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, September 25, 2010, at 10:30 a.m. at Congdon Funeral Home, 3012 Sheridan Rd., Zion IL. Interment is private for the family. Visitation will be Friday, September 24, 2010, from 5:00-8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial donations are suggested to the Safe Harbor Humane Society, 7811 60th Ave., Kenosha, WI 53142.
