Bobby Gene Dodd Sr., 77, of Beach Park, Illinois, died on Saturday, June 19, 2010 at Vista Medical Center East in Waukegan, Illinois. Bobby was born May 25, 1933 in Eldorado, Illinois and moved with his family at an early age to Russell, Illinois. He married Barbara Ann Mackay on September 8, 1951. Bobby served with the United States Army in the early 1950's. He lived in Beach Park most of his life except for seven years in Luckey, Ohio before he retired in 1988 from Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company after 33 years. In 1988 he started Dodd's Towing of Beach Park. Bobby was a devoted member of Northpoint Church in Winthrop Harbor, Illinois and Zion United Methodist Church in Luckey, Ohio. He served as Village Trustee for Beach Park for four years, was a member of Zion-Benton Kiwanis Club and the Luckey Kiwanis Club and he was an avid automobile enthusiast. Survivors include his sons, Bobby Gene (Valerie) Dodd Jr., Steven Curtis (Julie) Dodd, Scott Dodd and Paul Lee (Carol) Dodd; thirteen grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one brother, George Dodd Jr.; one sister, Wanda Lawrence; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara, in 2009; one sister, Mary Kennedy; and his parents, George and Goldie Dodd. Visitation will be Wednesday, June 23, 2010, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon at Northpoint Church, 900 N. Lewis Avenue, Winthrop Harbor, Illinois, where a funeral service will follow at 12:00 noon, Rev. Dennis Corley officiating. Entombment will follow at Mt. Olivet Memorial Park, Zion. Memorial donations to Northpoint Church have been suggested.
