Bonnie M. Murphy, 68, of Zion, died on Thursday, July 16, 2009, at her home following a long illness. Bonnie was born October 5, 1940, in Chicago, and was a 1958 graduate of Schurz High School in Chicago. She married her late husband, Mike Murphy on September 14, 1964, in Elgin. Bonnie was currently an employee of the Lake County Clerk's Office in Waukegan. She and Mike had previously owned and operated the Frolic Lounge in Waukegan, Chicken Unlimited in Libertyville, Waukegan, and Racine, the Food Barrel in Zion, and Murphy's Restaurant and Lounge in Beach Park. She was a past member of the Lake County Tavern Owners Association. While in business in Zion she and Mike supported the Zion Fraternal Order of Police, the Bonnie Brook Fire Department, the Lake County Shriners and Tebala Motor Patrol, and the Wadsworth Lions Club. Bonnie, along with Mike, was heavily involved with Beach Park Baseball. She was also a member of the Zion Moose#667. Survivors include her son, Kevin (Kim) Murphy of Carol Stream, IL; grandchildren, Rachel Murphy, and Marissa and Michael Majewski; sisters, Gloria Przyborski of Carpentersville, IL, and Cherie (Thomas) Ryan of AZ; and numerous nieces and nephews and cousins. She is preceded in death by her husband Mike in 1999; sister, Donna Rae Menze; parents, Frank and Celia Menze; and niece, Becky Lynn Ryan. Visitation will be held on Monday, July 20, 2009, from 4:00-8:00 p.m at Congdon Funeral Home, 3012 Sheridan Rd., Zion, IL. A Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, July 21, 2009, at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home. Memorial donations are suggested to Vista Star Hospice or the American Cancer Society.
