Carol Bachler

Carol L. Bachler (nee Shaw) was born February 17, 1926 in the family home in Zion, IL. Carol joined and was baptized in the Christian Catholic Church in 1936. She graduated from Zion-Benton Township High School and attended Lake Forest College, Carthage College, National College of Education, and the University of Wisconsin. She earned a BA and an MA in Elementary Education and did advanced study, CAS, in Education Administration. Carol taught at both West and East Schools in her hometown and later was principal of each. At the request of the Board of Education, she developed the school district’s Gifted Program and an innovative “hands-on” kindergarten curriculum. She married Marvin in 1980, and after retirement they traveled much of North America in their R.V. They moved to Springfield, MO in 1998, and made many new friends there. A highlight of these later years was a mission trip to Bolivia, South America, where Carol taught Vacation Bible School in Spanish and Marvin oversaw the building of a church. Carol loved children, teaching and enjoyed Bible study, making greeting cards, scrapbooking, and counted cross-stitch. She collected cookbooks and was an avid reader. Preceded in death by her loving husband and best friend, Marvin Bachler; her parents, George and Lutie Leech Shaw; her brother E. Walter Shaw; and beloved children Cynthia, Walter, and Nelson Revis; and twin grand daughters Carol and Elsie Revis. Survived by her children, Susan Revis, George (Xing Ming) Revis; grand daughter, Kathleen Cowsert; daughter-in-law, Jennifer Revis; and family, Stephen, Geoffrey, and Lisa Revis. Also survived by her “bonus” children, Andrew (Sharon) Bachler and family, Kevin (Deborah) Bachler and family, Martin Bachler, Kerrilyn (Michael) Connor and family. Also by her loving sister, Rosemary (Leo) Benson and son, and her brother’s family, Matthew (Diane) Shaw and family, and Wilma (Michael) Tidwell and family. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 13, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at the Congdon Funeral Home, 3012 Sheridan Road, Zion, IL. Interment will be held at 11:30 a.m. at Mt. Olivet Memorial Park, 1436 Kenosha Road, Zion, IL. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations have been suggested to the Rush University Medical Center Memory and Aging Project at www.rush.edu/giveonline.
