Carter Jack Stewart, 65, of Waukegan died at home on Memorial Day after a long battle with Parkinson's disease.
He was the son of the late Irene (Harazak) Stewart and Jack Stewart, both of Waukegan. He enjoyed the proximity of Lake Michigan to his family home and was an avid sailor and served as a sailing instructor at the Great Lakes Naval Training Center. He had been a member of the Anchorage Yacht Club for several years.
Carter will be remembered as a gentle, polite man who loved learning and valued friendship.
He is survived by his aunts: Joan Livieri of Shelbyville, TN; Evelyne Stickler of Puryear, TN; and Catherine Emanuel of Panama City, FL. His Aunts Helen and Sylvia and Uncle Edward predeceased him. He will be greatly missed by his good friend and caregiver, Portia Carmichael, of Naperville and her son Douglas.
A memorial service honoring Carter will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, June 3, at the First Presbyterian Church, 122 N. Martin Luther King, Jr., Ave., Waukegan.
