Charles E. Leggans, 68, of Waukegan, IL passed away January 22, 2014 at Midwest Palliative and Hospice Care Center in Glenview, IL.
Chuck was born August 23, 1945 in East St. Louis, IL. He graduated high school in 1963, attended Southern State for a year. In 1965 he joined the United States Navy and retired in August of 1989 after 24 years as Master Chief FC. After retiring Chuck was employed at San Diego Community College for 20 years and Florida State College for 4 years. On May 26, 1973, he married Victoria and spent 40 wonderful years together.
Chuck is survived by his wife, Vickie; children, Chanda Leggans, Gregory Leggans of Waukegan, IL, and Julie Leggans-Mabins of Waukegan, IL; grandchild, Michael C. Mabins; mother, Ruth Lesh of Ormand Beach, FL. and a Sister-in law and Brother -in-law Donna & James Natalie of Phoenix,AZ. He was an Uncle to 7, Nieces and Nephews, and a Great Uncle to 10, and a Great-Great Uncle to 7. Good friends, Bill and Donna Slingerland; and many other dear friends and relatives.
Chuck was an avid Bear's fan all his life. And an avid Drum and Bugle Corp enthusiasts. Which he was part of in 1960-1963 with the Black Knights of Belleville IL. He played trumpet. He loved music. He was also was an accomplished accordion player. And was an Eagle Scout at a very young age. Chuck accomplished many things in his all to short life. He will be truly be missed and loved forever by his family.
Visitation will be Saturday, February 1, 2014 from 1:00 until 2:00 p.m., with a funeral to follow at CONGDON FUNERAL HOME, 3012 Sheridan Road, Zion. Memorial donations to the Family in Chuck's name would be appreciated for a Memorial to be determined.
