Charles Franklin Plummer November 8, 1920-December 10, 2009 Beloved father, grandfather and great grandfather, Charles (Chuck) died on Thursday, December 10 at Advocate Condell Hospital in Libertyville, Illinois. At the time of his death he resided at Victory Lakes in Lindenhurst, Illinois. He was born November 8, 1920 in Cameron, Wisconsin to Ned Kirby Plummer and Grace Helena (nee Denson) Plummer. His siblings included the late Richard Plummer, Kenneth Plummer and three surviving sisters, Lorna Koranda, Ruth (Warren) Wells and Dorris Fallos. Chuck graduated from Waukegan High School in 1939 and went to work at Abbott Laboratories. In 1942 he was inducted into the US Army where he served in the medical corps as a surgical technician for the 451st Anti Aircraft Unit until his return home in November 1945. He received 2 victory medals, 1 service stripe, 5 service bars, European-African-Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon with 1 bronze and 1 silver battle star, and a good conduct medal. On December 8, 1945, Chuck married his soul mate and partner for life, Gloria Ruth (Schott) Plummer. The two soon established a growing family and thriving photo studio in Winthrop Harbor. Chuck also resumed working at Abbott Laboratories, where he remained until retirement after 42 years. He served his community in numerous ways; as president of the Winthrop Harbor School Board, president of the local AFS Chapter that supported foreign exchange student opportunities at Zion High School, as a member of the Moose Club of Zion (and their official photographer for many years), as a member of his local VFW and most recently as president of his community residents association at Victory Lakes, Lindenhurst, Illinois. Chuck's beloved wife Gloria, preceded him in death by a little over three weeks and shortly before their 64th wedding anniversary. He is survived by three daughters; Joan (Nedra Crow) Sebastian of San Diego California, Carol (Peter) Trobe of Wadsworth, Illinois, and their AFS sister Nesta (Larry) Cramer of South Africa. Chuck had four adored granddaughters, Katherine (Bruce Woodard) Sebastian, Lesley Sebastian, Hannah Trobe and Abbey Trobe, and two great-grandchildren, Ian Charles Sebastian an Eleanor Ruth Sebastian. A quiet, honorable man whose loving presence was strongly felt through his unwavering support of family, friends and community, Chuck Plummer will be greatly missed. Charles and Gloria's cremations were handled by
Congdon Funeral Home, Zion, Illinois. A memorial service will be held December 26; details to be posted on the Congdon website. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Diabetic Association.
