Charles E. "Charlie" Revis, 89, recently of St. Petersburg, Florida, and formerly of Zion, died on Saturday, December 27, 2008, at The Allegro at College Harbor in St. Petersburg. He lived most of his life and made his mark in Zion.
Charlie was born December 24, 1919, in Indianapolis, Indiana, graduated from high school in Galesburg, Illinois, and lived in Zion from 1941 until 2008. He married Dorothy Sweborg on October 18, 1941, in Galesburg. Charlie was a member of and taught Sunday School for many years as well as holding other offices at Grace Missionary Church of Zion, the church his grandfather, the Reverend Thomas Nelson, started. He was self-employed for more than 50 years at Revis Electric in Zion, working until 2006. For many years he served on the Zion Zoning Board of Appeals. He was also a longtime member of the Zion Exchange Club, serving as President and the Treasurer for many years and was the proud recipient of the club's Golden Deeds Award in 1987. He was instrumental in the selling of bonds for the original swimming pool and also helped with building the Zion Exchange Club shelter in Shiloh Park.
He was a member of the board of the Greater Chicago Sunday School Association
and also served as its Chairman.
