Clayton P. Alshouse, 92, of Zion, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, October 17, 2010 at home, surrounded by his loving family.
Clayton was born August 12, 1918 in Oelwein, Iowa, came to Lake County in the 1920's, and has been a resident of Zion since 1928. On June 28, 1941 he and Florence Peters were married at Christian Assembly of God Church in Zion. Clayton retired in 1983 from Johnson Motors after working in Tool & Die for 35 years. He also served with the United States Navy during WWII in the Pacific Theater aboard the USS M. L. Hershey. Clayton was a die-hard Chicago Cubs and Chicago Bears fan and he enjoyed fishing. He was a member of Zion-Benton American Legion Post 865.
Survivors include his wife of 69 years, Florence (nee Peters) Alshouse; children, Connie (Randall) Anderson of Highland Park, Illinois and Linda Clark of Salem, Wisconsin; grandchildren, Cynthia Clark, Crissie Clark-Boyd, Lisa Grope, John Clark III, and Katie Minott; and fourteen great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his grandson, Scott Anderson; one brother, Bill Alshouse; and by his parents, Milfred and Hazel Alshouse.
Visitation will be Wednesday, October 20, 2010, from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. at the CONGDON FUNERAL HOME, 3012 Sheridan Road, Zion, where a service will follow at 7:00 p.m. Private entombment will be held later at Mt. Olivet Memorial Park, Zion. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Assistance in Healthcare Foundation, P.O.B. 396, Zion, IL 60099 (a foundation of Cancer Treatment Centers of America, Zion).
