Clifford W. Peterson, 94, of Zion died on Saturday, October 28, 2006 in Kenosha, WI.
Clifford was born July 26, 1912 in Zion. He graduated from Zion Parochial School and was a member of Christ Community Church of Zion. A veteran of World War II, Clifford served with the United States Navy aboard LST 857 in the South Pacific. For many years he sold insurance in the area with Met Life. He was also a member of Christian Businessmen's Committee, Gideons International, Zion Exchange Club and had served on the Zion Park District Board. He enjoyed playing baseball and was a noted baseball pitcher.
Survivors include his wife of 74 years, Evelyn (nee Mann) Peterson; children, Janet (Loren) Storey of Zion, Larry (Doris) Peterson of Zion, Marilyn (Darwin) Borden of Robbinsdale, MN, Marjorie (Brian) Monaghan of Chicago and Craig Peterson of Zion; nine grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; a brother, Robert (the late Josephine) Peterson of Sun City, AZ; a sister, Lucy (the late Floyd) Messick of Winter Haven, FL; and a sister-in-law, Laurel Petersen of Zion.
He was preceded in death by a grandson, Drew Borden; a brother, Daniel Petersen; a sister, Anna (the late John) Richards; and his father and mother, Broder and Lottie (nee Edwards) Petersen.
Visitation will be Wednesday, November 1, 2006 from 9 AM until 10:30 AM at the Christ Community Church, 2500 Dowie Memorial Drive, Zion. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, November 1st at 10:30 AM at Christ Community Church with Pastor Jim Wiziarde officiating. Interment will follow at Benton-Greenwood Cemetery, Benton Township, IL. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to either Camp Zion or ZEMA have been suggested.
