Cristal A. Copen

Cristal A. Copen, affectionately known as "Monkey," born on June 29, 1983, in Waukegan, Illinois, passed away on October 30, 2024, in Zion, Illinois.

Cristal was a beloved mother, whose greatest joy came from her son, Kaeden. Cristal was a vibrant soul known for her sarcastic humor and loving nature. She had a vibrant spirit and a passion for creativity, often spending her time building intricate designs with Legos. Cristal also enjoyed shopping, particularly for shoes, cooking, coffee and caffeine.

Cristal obtained an associate’s degree in psychology. Cristal dedicated her life to nurturing young minds as an Early Childhood Director, a role she embraced with passion and commitment. One of Cristal’s proudest professional accomplishments was her time she spent organizing “Tech Gyrls”, a STEM program that strives to improve the lives of girls 9-14 years old.

Cristal is survived by her son Kaeden Copen, best friend Katie Fessler, brothers Johnny Bell (Selena), Justin Copen (Monica), Jimmy R Bell Jr, Mother Lori Ryan (John) and Father Johnny Bell Sr., Uncle Jamie Copen (Linda), nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. 

She was preceded in death by her grandparents, James and Virginia Copen namesake, Aunt Cristal, bonus grandma Mary Schaab.

Cristal gained her wings alongside her Mom Gina Copen and Uncle Scott Copen.

Friends and family will meet for a visitation on Saturday, November 23, 2024, from 1:00 – 2:00 at The Well Church, 9001 17th Ave, Kenosha, WI 53143. A memorial service to celebrate her life will begin at 2:00. Cristal's spirit and laughter will be profoundly missed by all who knew her. Cristal's memory will continue to live on in the hearts of her family and friends.
