David N. Osterberg, 94, of Beach Park, died 10/6/2014 in Waukegan, IL. He was born 9/27/1920 in Waukegan to Albin and Amelia Osterberg as the youngest of five children.
He graduated from Waukegan High School in 1938, served as a Hospital Corpsman in the Navy from 1942-1945 and in the Korean War from 1951-1952 at Great Lakes. He received his B.A. degree from Bethel College, MN, in 1950 and his B.S. degree from University of Minnesota in 1951. He received his Master's degree from Northwestern University in Evanston, IL in 1955.
He married the love of his life, Helen Franklin, in June, 1950. They were married for 64 years.
He spent his entire career of 30 years as a school administrator in the North Chicago School District and retired in 1991. He was long time member of Immanuel Church in Waukegan and for the last 20 years at Grace Missionary Church in Zion, IL.
David was preceded into the presence of His Savior by his loving wife, Helen, his parents, two brothers; Harold and Einer Osterberg, and two sisters; Ruth Anthony and Elizabeth Dowers.
His legacy lives on in the lives of his son, David (Karen) Osterberg of Zion; his daughters, Jan (Ken) Stone of Grayslake, and Dagmar (Al) May of Bristol, WI; 13 grandchildren, Kelly Roberts, D.J. Osterberg, Ben Osterberg, Scott (Andrea) Osterberg, Krystal (Bryan) Patterson, Katie (Mike) Berggren), Kristy Stone, Erik Stone, Kimmy (Gary) Sworthout, Michelle Stone, Michael Stone, Megan May and Kalie May; and 13 great-grandchildren.
David will be remembered by his family and friends for his generous and kind heart, his great faith in God and his practical wisdom.
A memorial service will be held Monday, October 13 at 1:00 pm at Grace Missionary Church, 1415 - 27th St., Zion. Friends may greet the family from 12:00 pm until the time of service at the church. Final resting place will be Pineview Memorial Park, Beach Park.
