David was born on October 5, 1946 in Waukegan, IL to Richard and Marian Suthard. He obtained his Bachelor’s in Accounting from Carthage College and his Master’s in Tax from DePaul University.
Fifty-two years ago, he married the love of his life, Jan Wedekind. Together they raised three daughters. David was a dedicated and loving father. His pride and joy were his three daughters and five grandchildren.
He was a proud veteran of the United States Air Force having served with the 75th Flying Tigers,
37th Tactical Fighter Wing in Phù Cát, Vietnam. He was honored to have a brick at the National Vietnam War Museum in Texas.
He was an active member of Christ Community Church where he taught high school Sunday School for many years. He was also a member of Village Church of Gurnee. Christ was the center of his life and he drew great comfort during his battle with cancer from his relationship with his Lord and Savior.
He was a former Vice President and Treasurer of the Zion Republican Club. He was a past President, Vice President and board member of the Kiwanis Club of Zion-Benton. He served eight years on the board of directors at NorthPointe Achievement Center and as a past chairman of the finance committee.
He served for 39 years with the Zion Park District holding various positions including elected Commissioner, President, Vice President and Treasurer.
David worked for North Point Marina (IL Dept. of Natural Resources) for 27 years serving as the first Business Manager, and for a number of years as General Manager. He was also a Certified Marina Manager. Lastly, David was also extremely dedicated to his own tax accounting practice and was an Enrolled Agent with the IRS for 45 years.
David is survived by his loving wife, Jan; daughters, Michelle (Scott), Melissa (Dan), and Amy (Rob); grandchildren, Téa, Alina, Christian, Noah, and Cade; his mother-in-law, Doris Wedekind; his brothers-in-law, David Brian (Jeanne) Wedekind, Rich (Donna) Wedekind, and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Marian Suthard; and brother, Rich Suthard.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, June 26, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at Christ Community Church, 2500 Dowie Memorial Drive, Zion, IL. Friends may greet the family from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at the church.
