David Jack Valentine, 66, of Zion, IL, passed away on Saturday, April 4 at Advocate Hospice at Condell.
Visitation will be from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 8, 2015, at Congdon Funeral Home, 3012 Sheridan Road, Zion, and also on Thursday, April 9, 2015, from 9:00 until 10:00 a.m. Service will be at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 9, 2015, with Pastor Mike McDowell of Christ Community Church officiating. Burial will follow at Fort Sheridan Post Cemetery.
David was born in Muskegon, MI, to Jack Robert and Ardyce Wood Valentine on Sept. 18, 1948. He grew up in Muskegon and graduated from high school in 1967. He studied architecture at community college in Muskegon before enlisting in the U.S. Navy in 1968. David made the Navy a career, retiring in 1992 as a Master Chief Electronics Technician (Surface Warfare). Following his military retirement, he worked as an instructor in the training schools at Naval Station Great Lakes. He enjoyed scuba diving, wood working, golf, and photography. He was a member of the Winthrop Harbor VFW Post.
David is survived by his wife, Colleen DeVries Valentine, whom he married on Oct. 20, 1984. He is also survived by two daughters, Kristina Marie Valentine of Palatine and Garnet Gail Valentine of Zion. A granddaughter, Tristyn Angelique Valentine, also survives, as well as other relatives, including niece and nephew Heather Gillard and Brandon Gillard of the Muskegon area.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Jack Bernard Valentine; and sister, Sally Gillard.
