Denny Caddell

Denny “Dean” Caddell, 70, of Beach Park, IL died Saturday, May 9, 2015 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born March 25, 1945 to Billie Jean and Calvin Caddell in Oak Ridge, TN. He graduated from high school on May 23, 1963 in Odessa, TX. He has lived in Lake County, IL since the early 1980's except for working at the US Naval Base in Yokuska, Japan for approximately 2 years as a civilian employee. He served in the US Navy, primarily aboard WWII class and nuclear class submarines and as a Navy diver during the Vietnam War and the Cold War. He was honorably discharged after 10 years of service in the US Navy attaining the rank of 1st Class Petty Officer. After leaving military service he was employed at the Great Lakes Naval Training Center and retired in 2001 after serving as the Public Works superintendent since 1986. Upon his retirement he received the Department of the Navy Meritorious Civilian Service Award and many other commendations throughout his career with the Department of Defense. He also served as past Post Commander, VFW Post 2997. Dean is survived by his wife, Susan, of over 28 years; children Wendy (Dean) McBride of Silver Lake, WI, Brian (Laura) Lehman of Zion, IL, Denise (Scott) Sabourin of Kirkland, WA, and Bridget (Jon) Ward of Lindenhurst, IL; five grandchildren Kayleigh (Daniel) Withers, Zachary and Nina Lehman, and Jacob and Jessica Ward; four great-grandchildren Brieanna, Grace, Caleb and Micah Withers; and his mother Billie Jean Renfro of Brownfield, TX. He will also be so very missed by his canine sweetheart, Tasha. Dean was preceded in death by his first wife Mary; his father Calvin Caddell and his step-father David Renfro. Visitation will be Friday, May 15, 2015 from 9:00 until 11:00 a.m. at the Congdon Funeral Home, 3012 Sheridan Road, Zion, IL. A funeral service will follow at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Memorial donations to the Wounded Warrior Project (www.wounded warriorproject.org/donate) has been suggested.
