Don Frederick Stranberg, age ninety-two, went to be with the Lord Jesus Christ on July 10, 2010 at Vista Medical Center East in Waukegan.
Don was born and raised in Oak Park, Illinois. Later, he studied mechanical engineering at Iowa University.
Don worked 36 years at Anchor Coupling Company in Libertyville, Illinois. He began as a mechanical engineer and was promoted to increasing levels of management responsibility, until he became President and CEO, a position he held into retirement. While there, he held numerous patents and became a progressive business leader. Later in life, he would boast, "and I never had to fire a single employee." He cared deeply for his profession and employees, earning the respect of all those who knew him.
Don was a generous person, with a sense of humor. He was a faithful husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. His family and friends will miss Don.
Don Frederick is survived by his two sons, Don (Pat) Stranberg Jr. of Sterling, Illinois, Ted (Nancy Falotico) Stranberg of Union Grove, Wisconsin; two daughters, Joyce (Bill) Koss of Aurora, Illinois and Priscilla (Jon) Krause of Waukegan, Illinois; eleven grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred Stranberg and Irene Fuerstenau, and his wife, Mary Lou.
A visitation will be held at 10:00 a.m. with a memorial service to follow at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 17. 2010 at CONGDON FUNERAL HOME, 3012 Sheridan Road, Zion, Illinois. Officiating will be Rev. Daniel Haas. Burial will be private. Memorials may be directed to Immanuel Church's World Outreach Fund, 2300 Dilley's Road, Gurnee, Illinois 60031.
