Donald “Ducky” Fiala, 88, of Pleasant Prairie, WI died on Sunday, June 5, 2016 at home.
He was born December 25, 1927 in Waukegan, IL, grew up in Beach Park, graduated from Zion-Benton Township High School in 1945, lived in Zion and moved to Pleasant Prairie 25 years ago. He began his work career at age 14 setting bowling pins in Waukegan, then worked for Wetzel and Turner Chevrolet in Waukegan and Johnson Motors in Waukegan. He built and owned Northwest Automotive in Zion and retired in 1990 from Erik Christiansen Construction in Gurnee. Donald had been an avid hunter and, also, enjoyed fishing, especially Coho Salmon fishing on Lake Michigan.
Survivors include his children Brian (Theresa) Fiala of Lisle, IL, Cindy (Michael) Reierson of Indianapolis, IN, and Judy Hamilton of Yakima, WA: seven grandchildren; and eleven great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his 2nd wife Brenda in 2015; son-in-law Dennis Hamilton in 2014; brother Edwin during WWII; and his parents John and Anna Fiala.
Visitation will be Friday, June 10, 2015, from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. at the CONGDON FUNERAL HOME, 3012 Sheridan Road, Zion. A funeral service will follow at 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Cemetery graveside services will be held on Saturday, June 11, 2016, at 11:00 a.m. at Pineview Memorial Park, Beach Park, IL.
