Donald McBride

1921 — January 28, 2010

Donald F. McBride, 88, of Beach Park, Illinois, died on Thursday, January 28, 2010 at Condell Hospital in Libertyville. Donald was born September 22, 1921 in Hector, Minnesota and has lived in this area for the past 60 plus years. He was a Veteran of World War II, enlisting the day after the attack on Pearl Harbor. He served with the United States Navy for 7 years, including time aboard the USS J. Franklin Bell. Donald was a 55 year member of Local #150, Operating Engineers, retiring in 1980. He was a life member of Winthrop Harbor V.F.W. #7448 and the Military Order of the Cooties, Ho Tai Chapter #067, and he was a member of Zion-Benton Moose #667. Don enjoyed gardening, fixing cars for his friends, and operating his tractor. Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Inda (nee Banes); one daughter, Tanya Marie (Charles) McBride-Churchill of Holly Springs, Mississippi; one son, Frank D. McBride of Wadsworth, Illinois; five grandchildren, Israel Love, Jacob McBride, Hannah Morin, Nathan McBride and Andrea Payne; four great-grandchildren; siblings, Ethel Tagness of Bloomington, Minnesota, Earl (Lois) McBride of Hutchinson, Minnesota, Gladys (Kermit) Kiecker of Fairfax, Minnesota, Jean McBride of San Jose, California and Fran Piehl of Howard Lake, Minnesota; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one sister, Doris Olson; and his parents, Clarence and Anne (nee Witte) McBride. Visitation will be Monday, February 1, 2010, from 11:00 until 1:00 p.m. at the CONGDON FUNERAL HOME, 3012 Sheridan Road, Zion, followed by funeral services at 1:00 p.m. Interment will be at Mt. Olivet Memorial Park, Zion. Memorial donations to Winthrop Harbor V.F.W. have been suggested.
