Donald Schmidt

Donald C. Schmidt of Winthrop Harbor, Illinois, passed away January 31, 2025 at his home in Winthrop Harbor. He was born February 22, 1953 in Waukegan, Illinois, to parents Pat and Harry Schmidt.

Donald graduated from Waukegan High School and went on to receive a bachelor's degree in business from College of Lake County. He married his wife LuAnn Dutton in North Chicago on April 27, 1974. Donald was a member of Our Lady of Humility Church in Beach Park, Illinois and prior to his retirement worked for Waste Management Recycle America, Grayslake, IL, as their Facility Manager.

He enjoyed and played many sports and was an avid Chicago Bears fan. He enjoyed watching football and of course his wife gave a running commentary on how well or poorly the Bears were doing. He loved vacationing especially in Anna Maria, Florida. Cruising was also a favorite.

Donald was hard-working, had a great sense of humor, and could also remember the most trivial facts. He was also always one to lend a hand to anyone in need, no matter what they needed. To meet him was to love him and he truly loved his family.

Donald is survived by his wife, LuAnn Schmidt; mother Pat Schmidt; brother, Dan (Deborah) Schmidt; nieces, Kristin, Kara, Pamela, and Tiffany; and best friend, Ed “The Fed” Buffum.

He was preceded in death by his father, Harry Schmidt; father and mother-in-law, Jack and Lucille Dutton; and brother-in-law, John Dutton.

A visitation will be held Thursday February 6, 2025 from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. at Congdon Funeral Home followed by a service at 12:00 p.m.
