Donald W. Schroeder, 86, of Winthrop Harbor, Illinois, died on Sunday, July 4, 2010 at Vista Medical Center East in Waukegan.
Don was born April 3, 1924 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and moved to Zion in 1952 from Kenosha. He was a Veteran of World War II having served with the Army-Air Corps. Don retired in 1986 after 39 years of perfect attendance with Illinois Bell Telephone Company. He was also a member of I.B.E.W. local 336 and belonged to Telephone Pioneers of America. Don was a jack of all trades to his family as he was always there to help with their home improvement projects.
Survivors include his children, Donna (Norman) Franke of Pleasant Prairie, Wisconsin, Janet Zurcher of Kenosha, Wisconsin, Gary (Ann Marie) Schroeder of Wheaton, Illinois and Diane (Jerry) Walleck of LaGrange Park, Illinois; fourteen grandchildren, Derek, Stephanie, Laura, Melissa, Ryan, Kristin, Katie, Kurt, Craig, Marlee, Donald, Hailey, Jeremy and Hannah; one great-grandson, William; one sister, Jean Ledanski of Pleasant Prairie, Wisconsin; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Lena; one son, Donald Jr.; two sisters, Arlene Peterson and Joyce Schneider; one brother, Ronald; and his parents, Herman and Nellie Schroeder.
Visitation will be Thursday, July 8, 2010, from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon at the CONGDON FUNERAL HOME, 3012 Sheridan Road, Zion, Illinois, where a memorial service will follow at 12:00 noon. Private entombment will be held later at All Saints Cemetery, Kenosha.
