Dorothy Mae Trantham

1925 — July 9, 2015

Dorothy Mae Trantham, beloved mother and grandmother, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on July 9, 2015. She was born on Oct. 27, 1925 in Jonesboro Arkansas, to Erna Lafayette and Myrttie Armine (Willson) Jones. She enrolled at Moody Bible Institute where she met Ralph Trantham. They graduated and married in Chicago in 1950. They became members of Leavitt St. Bible Church, where Ralph was ordained. From there, they answered God's call in their lives, and traveled to Pakistan. She ministered to the Pakistani women, served in the boarding school for missionary children, and cared for her family. Together, they were missionaries for 13 years. When they returned to Chicago in 1966, Dorothy continued to raise their 4 children. She held several bookkeeping jobs, but most of her career was at Moody Bible Institute, where she worked for 20 years, returning to the same department she'd been in while enrolled there. Dorothy's life was marked by service to others, steadfast determination, and a love for her Lord. In recent years, she was known for her countless notes of encouragement to everyone God laid on her heart. Dorothy is survived by her daughter, Beth (Nick) Severino of Kenosha, WI; her son Mark (Sharleen) Trantham of Garland, Texas; Gary (Sherry) Trantham of Beach Park; and Paul (Lynette) Trantham of Waukegan. She is also survived by 10 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. Preceding her in death were her husband of 61 years, Ralph; her parents; sisters Martha Jean Cox and Erna Lee Gregory; and brother Allen Wayne Jones. A memorial service will be held Thursday, July 16, 2015 at 6:00 p.m. at Lakeview Church,1821 Sheridan Road, Zion , with Pastor Les Martin officiating. Visitation will be held from 4:00 until time of service. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to Lakeview Church for missions.
