Doug Freeman, 60, of Zion, died on Sunday, November 4, 2007, at home and surrounded by his family.
He was born July 31, 1947 in Waukegan and has lived in Zion all of his life. He was an active member of North Point Community Christian Church of Winthrop Harbor where he led many Bible studies and small groups. Doug always had a burning passion for leading lost souls to the Lord.
Early on he had worked for Abbott Labs for 15 years and later worked in real estate, becoming a residential real estate appraiser in the Lake County area for many years. He was also a lifetime member of the Amateur Trapshooting Association, having won many trophies in competitive shooting over the years.
Survivors include his wife of 27 years, Pam; children Reginald Freeman of Beach Park and Michelle (David) Parker of Charlotte, Tennessee; four grandchildren Simon Freeman and Matthew, Hannah and Jeremiah Parker; one sister Pamela (Mel) McGinnis of Parrish, Florida; one nephew Patrick (Carrie-Ann) Kerr of Neshanic Station, New Jersey; one great-nephew Jake Kerr; five aunts Lola Newton of Gainsville, Missouri, Monna Farmer of West Plaines, Missouri, Doris Thornton of Dora, Missouri, Farol Routh of West Plaines, Missouri, and Geraldine Markwald of Phoenix, Arizona; one uncle Jim (Barb) Gunter of Winthrop Harbor; and dear friends John & Ruth Crawford of Zion.
He was preceded in death by his parents Merl and Hazel Freeman.
Visitation will be Wednesday, November 7, 2007, from 6:00 until 9:00 p.m. at the CONGDON FUNERAL HOME, 3012 Sheridan Road, Zion. Private interment will be held later at Mt. Olivet Memorial Park, Zion. A memorial service in celebration of his life will be held Thursday evening at 7:00 p.m. at North Point Community Christian Church, 900 N. Lewis Avenue, Winthrop Harbor, with Pastor Dennis Corley officiating. Memorial donations to North Point Community Church have been suggested.
