Edna Ashley Lofton, 89, was born at home on May 20, 1926 in Golden, MS. She was the fourth of ten children born to WD & Bernice Ashley. Out by the mailbox in 1944 she married JC Lofton. They had one child Eddie Ray and he became the center of their world. The call of the auto industry drew them north. In 1955 they settled into their new home where they both remained for the remainder of their lives. They were married 59 years. Edna worked at Burgess, Anderson, and Tate for 27 years making many lifelong friends. Jesus Christ and First Baptist Church of Winthrop Harbor were always front and center in their lives. She and JC invested time, blood, sweat and tears.
She is survived by Eddie her son and his wife Barbara, four grandchildren Pamela Sheree (Jim) Allstrom, Ricki Lynn (John) McCauley, Richard Edward (Nancy) Lofton, Scott Nicholas (M. Elizebeth) Lofton, nine great-grandchildren; ten great-great-grandchildren; her siblings Ravenelle Ashley Anderson, Burton Stockton, Charles (Sue) Ashley, Paul (Kathy) Ashley, many friends and countless nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, May 12, 2016 at 4:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church, 3001 9th Street, Winthrop Harbor, with Pastor Major Dalton and Rev. Michael Brown, officiating.
