Edward H. Borre Jr., 83, of Winthrop Harbor, IL passed away peacefully August 12, 2014 at his home.
He was born December 26, 1930 in Chicago, IL to Edward H. Borre Sr. and Anna (nee, Matthys) Borre. He moved to Winthrop Harbor as a teenager and graduated from Zion-Benton Township High School in 1949. He met his wife Gerri (nee Wojcik) during their high school years. They were married August 4, 1950. They went on to celebrate almost 56 years of marriage together. He served in the army during the Korean war. In his younger years he was a carpenter in the family business. He also worked as a police officer and then as the police chief for the town of Winthrop Harbor. After leaving the police force, he took a position with Sears Roebuck and Company as an appliance repair technician until his retirement in 1992.
Ed loved working with his hands and was always tinkering. He loved to build and fix things, from houses, cars, appliances, etc. Over the years he was greatly appreciated for all of his help by his family, friends and neighbors.
He is survived by his children; Renee (Alan) Ewing, Edward (Kathy) Borre III, and David (Chris) Borre; grandchildren, Eric Ewing, Brandon and Ashley Borre, Shannon (Borre)Hawkins, Sean and David Jr. Borre ; and sister Jean Monson.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Gerri; parents, Edward and Anna; and a grandson, Scott Ewing.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, August 13, 2014 from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. at CONGDON FUNERAL HOME, 3012 Sheridan Road, Zion, IL. Mass of Christian burial will be held Thursday, August 14, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Humility Church, 10655 Wadsworth Road, Beach Park, IL. Interment will follow at Ascension Cemetery, Libertyville, IL.
