Edythe McConnaughey, former long-time resident of Winthrop Harbor, died recently after a long illness at the home of her daughter, Karla, in South Carolina. She was born in Bemiji, Minnesota and lived there a short time before moving to the Zion area. She graduated from Zion High School and lived most of the rest of her life in the Zion area. Before Edythe's illness, she was an active member of the Kenosha Assembly of God, and secretary/treasurer of the KAG Young at Heart. She and her husband, Russ, were founding members of the Zion Revival Center. She was a member of the Zion Women's Club and the Beach Park Garden Club. She walked regularly with the "Hardy Hikers" at Illinois Beach State Park. She also enjoyed traveling with the Zion Park District Travel Club. She is survived by her daughter, Karla (Walt) Barricklow of Barnwell, SC; her son, Paul McConnaughey of Huntsville, AL; sisters, Della Moore of NC, Delores Skinner of WI, Charmaine Baine of WI and Barbara Ledford of TN; grandson, Philip (Kristie) Hadley of North Augusta, SC; grand-daughters, Shannon McConnaughey of Nashville, TN, Kelly McConnaughey of Pine Ridge, SD and Tracy McConnaughey of Huntsville, AL; great-grandchildren, Ayla and Adian Hadley; and many nieces and nephews. Edythe was preceded in death by her husband, Clifford (Russ); brothers, Milford (Mel) Dailey, Virgil Dailey, Merlyn Dailey and Lyle (Bud) Dailey; and sisters, Lora Aiken and Marjorie McCormack. Visitation will be Thursday, September 16, 2010, from 1:00 until 2:00 p.m. at the CONGDON FUNERAL HOME, 3012 Sheridan Road, Zion, Illinois followed by a graveside service at Mt. Olivet Memorial Park, Zion, Illinois. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Trinity On Laurens, 213 Laurens Street, Aiken, SC 29801 (where she lived for several years in assisted living), or Hospice Care of South Carolina, 27 Hugh Street, Barnwell, SC 29812 (who assisted in her care) have been suggested.
