Eino Karppi,84, of Gurnee, IL, died on Monday, July 9, 2007, at theTerrace Nursing Home in Waukegan.
Eino was born July 17, 1922, in Vahakyro, Finland, and came to America (specifically, Amasa, MI) in 1955 where he worked as a lumber jack. In 1967 he moved to Gurnee, and worked for Kangas Construction as a carpenter until he retired in 1984. He served in the Finnish Army during World War II. Eino was a member of St. Mark' Lutheran Church in Waukegan.
Survivors include nieces and nephews in Finland; other relatives in Upper Michigan and good friends, Paavo (Helena) Pelkonen of Wadsworth, and many other neighbors and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Oskari and Kreeta Karppi; and one brother.
A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, July 12, 2007, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mark's Lutheran Church,3350 Delany Rd., Waukegan. Interment will follow at Warren Cemetery, in Gurnee. Visitation will be Thursday, from 9:00 a.m. until the time of services at the church,
